Overview

In the first of two contracts working for AUTOSOL through SCADpro, we were asked to design two booth experiences for AUTOSOL’s upcoming conferences. Our team designed touchpoints around the capabilities of products for the physical places where people meet the brand.

What is AUTOSOL?

AUTOSOL creates specialized data software that helps critical infrastructure sectors—like oil, gas, and manufacturing—safely monitor remote equipment. Because retrieving data from distant pipelines or wellheads is difficult, AUTOSOL acts as a secure digital bridge. Together, their three-part software ecosystem closes the data loop, transforming raw field readings into actionable boardroom insights.

  • eACM

Installed on remote equipment, this software acts as a smart filter that saves network bandwidth by sending data only when a field reading actually changes.

  • MQTT Broker

Functioning as a high-speed digital post office, it securely receives these targeted field updates and instantly routes them to company headquarters.

  • ACM

This enterprise software organizes the incoming data into centralized dashboards, providing executives with the exact insights needed for strategic decisions.

Our Design Constraints

  • Must be made of ready-to-purchase items
  • All 10×10 booth components must be used in the 20×30 booth to save cost
  • Include a takeaway to encourage engagement, in the AUTOSOL team’s experience this really helps
  • Must display the three brand products’ capabilities

What Other Booths Do

We started with who else is on the show floor.
We looked at competitor booths and at layouts from other exhibitors, then designed three ways our 10×10 can stand out of the crowd.

Two people standing beside a competitor booth with an orange Kepware backdrop and a wall-mounted screen
Two staff behind an orange counter at a competitor booth under a Proficy Accelerate backdrop
A large exhibitor booth with a lit overhead sign, olive trees, and oversized illuminated letters
A tall red exhibitor booth with a hanging gold curtain and a demo counter
A red and pink exhibitor booth with kiosks and a large demo screen

Kepware and Proficy are competitors. Kohler, groq, and Atera are other exhibitors whose layouts we pulled for inspiration.

Our First Three Concepts Around One Objective

Craft an intuitive booth flow that naturally educates visitors on how AUTOSOL is now uniquely positioned as the only company to offer the full data journey from field readings to boardroom insights, after releasing their new MQTT Broker.

Concept 1 render: a red ring floating above three towers with a graphic wall behind

Concept 1

The ring and three touch points represent how AUTOSOL’s three products complete the full data journey from the field to the boardroom.

$13,704.96Total cost
Concept 2 visual: curved black walls around a small meeting space with a lit counter

Concept 2

A more logical setup of black walls around a more private meeting space, allowing AUTOSOL’s sales team to shine.

$8,937.97Total cost
Concept 3 visual: three red touchscreen kiosks beside a counter and a large red LED wall

Concept 3

Provide a guided experience on how AUTOSOL’s three products interact with each other, starting from the outside touch point (the field readings) and moving to the innermost touchpoint (the insights).

$23,743Total cost

Unique Takeaway Ideations

Takeaways for the ICC Conference
(Focused on workers in the Field)
Field-worker takeaway ideas: jacket can coolers, AirTag key rings, Maglite flashlights, a key-ring multi-tool, work gloves, and sunglasses
Takeaways for the future Conferences
(Focused on the Boardroom)
Boardroom takeaway ideas: an AUTOSOL claw machine, tote bag, notebook, card holder, water bottle, chocolate coin, enamel pins, a ruler multi-tool, and a bottle-opener keychain

Our Feedback: Push Concept 3, but work on a more cost-effective plan
and they love the vending machine angle

So We Created Our Core Principles

  • Enable Independent Discovery: Design a self-guided space where attendees can easily grasp the AUTOSOL product ecosystem capabilities and how the tools interact.
  • Maximize Brand Reach: Develop highly desirable, unique takeaways to drive word-of-mouth engagement and turn attendees into organic, mobile brand ambassadors on the show floor.
  • Highlight the Competitive Edge: Center the environmental design around AUTOSOL’s unique market position as the only provider with this three-product integration.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Create spaces within the booth to discreetly store items
  • Factor in shipping costs on transporting items from conference to conference
  • Create high-quality mockups to print on booth components

Creating the 10ft×10ft Booth

We started from our original concept and turned it into a more polished look: three screens display the product capabilities on curved graphic walls, leading the attendee through a guided interactive showcase. Matching counters that allow for pamphlets and computers, floor graphics that guide the user, and a claw-machine giveaway to increase brand visibility throughout.

Cost down from $23,743 → around $16,500

Creating the 20ft×30ft Booth

Next, we experimented with how to take those pieces and reuse them in the large booth.
We did, and added a floating red ring as a grander centerpiece for the bigger space.

Front render of the 20 by 30 booth centerpiece: a red ring above three towers with a screen and a high table Dimensioned line drawing of the centerpiece: inside circle 7.3 feet wide, outside circle 9.8 feet wide, towers 9.8 feet, backdrop 6.3 feet, and tables 3 feet wide by 1 foot deep by 3 feet high

The 20×30 needed to be a centerpiece design, so we grabbed one of our most grand original designs to incorporate.

Render of the 20 by 30 booth with a curved AUTOSOL hanging banner above the red ring, two kiosk towers, graphic walls, and a table with chairs

The team designed a hanging banner as an added feature that broadcast the AUTOSOL branding and further accentuated the three-pronged product ecosystem.

Unique Takeaways

Creating a more interactive experience than simply walking up and getting an item, once an attendee walks through the three touchpoints they get a special token to play the claw machine and win one select prize.
